We would like to welcome to our IRC Operators team, tomkap! Please give a warm welcome to him. :D

And with him we have added a new server to the network: infernus.silverirc.com. This is tomkap's server and has been added to the round robin for irc.silverirc.com. You can connect to the server in X-Chat by using /server infernus.silverirc.com 6667 or /newserver infernus.silverirc.com 6667.

Once again, please welcome tomkap to the crew here at SilverIRC!

GIT: New README Functionality!

So, today I was looking around SilverIRC's GIT repository and I really wanted to have the "ReadMe" functionality that places like GitHub have. So, I did some research, hacked some code, and voila! I got it!

If you're hosting a project on our public GIT repository, you may now include a README file in your top directory. This README file must be properly formated Markdown to be displayed correctly (see this if you don't know the proper syntax). If everything goes right, the contents of the README file will show up in a new tab labelled "about". Hope you enjoy it!

In other news, ikey has resumed development on his IRC services, so there might be some exciting news about that soon, too!

I'm pleased to announce a new service that SilverIRC will be offering: a URL shortening service! If you don't know what that is, just go checkout tinyurl.com or bit.ly. I've just finished it earlier today and, while it still needs some work, it's fully functional as of now. Anyways, I'd like to see some use out of it, so here it is: http://scurl.tk

Have fun! :D

Due to several issues we have had with the Atheme IRC Services package, we have officially switched back to using Anope as our IRC Services package. You may have to re-register your nick and/or any channels you had registered under your nick(s).

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Oh my gosh! It's Xisdibik's birthday! He's 25 years old today. So you all should drop by and wish him happy birthday. And give him a present. I'm sure he would appreciate a million dollar donation in the mail. Why don't you get on that instead of sitting here reading this?

Originally posted by ArcherSeven:

Mibbit and similar sites, though useful, provide some level of problems for IRCops, that can be handled, but the easier method is to simply not allow them.

I'd like some input, what do users think about Mibbit and similar, and considering we have our own IRC client, is there any reason not to just ban them?

MemoServ or email me, please, ArcherSeven: archermmb AT aim DOT com
